BIOGRAPHY

Born in Tunis April 4, 1957, Mekdad Sehili started its initiation to the Koranic lessons (the equivalent of the gospel) at the age of 6 years in the school where taught his father. 

To 12 years, he is part of the club of music of his high school and makes itself notice quickly by his professors. In the same way, he discovers his comedian's talent while participating in the activities of the theater Club of his high school. 

In 1980, become student in the Law school and political sciences and economic of Tunis, hepursues his studies of music with the famous Ali Sriti, master of song and Ahmed Kalai, professor of lute. All two fully participate in his astonishing evolution. 

Solicited by the professional groups, him s produces in many festivals and achieve in a big studio hisfirst registration audio accompanied by the orchestra of the Tunisian radio television. Mawawily is a set of improvisation musical on verses bigger poets of the 17th and 18th century, vocal exercise that requires a big capacity and a certain talent. 

1987   mark its first meeting with Georges Wassouf, whooping cough of the Lebanese song. This last profiled its tour in Tunisia to interpret for the first time a written and composed song to his intention by Mekdad, song that will become very quickly a tube in the Arabian world. 

In 1988, Mekdad records a second audiotape, this time as author composer interprets: Machi. He is invited on all trays of television and before all micros radio phonic of Tunisia. He occurs that year in Algeria and in Germany. 

Our letters, his third album will appear in 1990. 

In 1994, at the time of a tour to Morocco, he composes some songs for the big Moroccan star Hayet Idrissi. 

After his fourth album title Music of today appeared in 1995, it decides to take a new turn that will allow him to deepen his musical research in level of words, the composition and the interpretation. Deciding to move away of the conventional musical structure, it feels the need of a deep change and a bigger opening on the outside. After two years of research, it takes a new creation Mascara, music imprinted of traditional and modern notes, a learnedly measured out mixture, and a new and intense melody enriched by poems of the thin melts the Tunisian south. A group is going to be born to give life to this work: Group of the New Music (NEW MUSIC). A group that is going to surprise and to charm at the same time. It is the immediate success and the tour of the festivals in Tunisia in 1998. 

In a goal to develop this new experience more, Mekdad Sehili decided to spend some abroad times. He chose to get settled in 1999 in Montreal, city multi ethnic par excellence, in the hope to give free court more to his inspiration, to live an enriching and original musical experience and to concretize it by the exit of a CD. 

He presented some official receptions in the theaters of Montreal (Theater "The Lion of gold" etc.…). 

In 2001, he presented his artistic file to the direction of the International Festival of Jazz of Montreal, that accepted his demand to offer him luck to occur June 30, 2001 on the stage "Labatt Blue Légère", one of the two gigantic scenes of the festival, the evening was adorable to a general public presence. 

In 2002, he returns to his native country, to renew his course with his public after a long absence. He participated in some Tunisian varieties in the Television, to speak of his experience and to present his new songs. 

He occurred with success in the festival of Jazz of Tabarka on the scene of Basil, then to the theater of the city of Tunis, within the Festival of the Tunisian music. 

The year 2004 is marked by the exit of his new album No that found a lot of admiration by the general public. 

This beautiful surprise is the badge of the National order of the Cultural Merit assigned by the President of Republic. 

And our artist pursues with perseverance his career in search of other horizons in the goal to enrich his artistic experience.
